Type A — Default PlayStation Layout
Type A is the default operation type on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. Move with Left Stick. Camera with Right Stick. Weak Attack Square, Strong Attack Triangle, Ki Blast Circle, Jump Cross. Ascend by holding Cross; descend by holding L3 (press Left Stick). Step dash by tapping L2 while moving; boost fly by holding L2 while moving. Guard L1; Just Guard time L1 as hits connect. Throw L1 plus Circle when close. Lock-on R1; change target with Right Stick while locked. Knockback Attack Triangle plus Circle. Vanish Cross while guarding, being hit, or attacking depending on context. Super Attacks: hold R2 and press Triangle, Square, Circle, or Cross for each equipped super. Ultimate Attacks: hold L2 and R2, press Triangle or Square. Evasive Skill: hold L2 and R2, press Cross. D-Pad Up quest info, Down chat, Left scouter, Right item list. Options opens pause menu; Touchpad may map to photo or log depending on platform settings.
Type B and Type C Differences
Type B swaps jump and lock-on compared to Type A: Jump R1, Ascend hold R1, Lock-on L1, while strike face buttons stay Square and Triangle. Players who jump constantly on R1 from other fighters may prefer this. Type C moves several functions for Xenoverse 1 veterans — supers and ultimates still use R2 and L2 combinations but face button assignments shift in the options preview; read the in-game chart before choosing Type C. Dual Ultimate tutorials sometimes display wrong prompts on Type C — the actual input often matches Type A ultimate inputs (L2 plus R2 plus Square). Test dual ultimates in Training Mode after switching types. You can change operation type anytime in Options without losing character progress.
Conton City Hub Controls
Hub controls stay consistent across operation types on PlayStation. Left Stick move, Right Stick camera, Cross jump, L2 boost flight, Circle interact with NPCs and portals when prompted, Options menu, D-Pad Down chat, D-Pad Right item bar, hold R3 or use map prompt for Conton City map depending on context. Emotes use D-Pad shortcuts after unlock. Online players use Touchpad for quick messages on PS4; PS5 DualSense works identically for Xenoverse 2 inputs. Vehicles and mounts use the same boost and movement bindings as flight. Time Patrol announcements and raid queues appear through hub UI — no separate binding.
Advanced Techniques on PlayStation
Step vanish: tap L2 directionally while pressing Cross for stamina-heavy movement tech. Snap stamina break: flick Left Stick direction plus Square or Triangle for snap break attacks. Guard cancel into vanish: hold L1, press Cross on read. Super dash: Cross plus L2 together consumes stamina for aggressive approach. Ki blast cancel into super: fire Circle, cancel animation with R2 super on hit confirm. Limit Burst in Expert Missions uses R3 default on PlayStation when the meter fills. Practice each technique in Training Mode with CPU set to attack — PlayStation triggers L2 and R2 wear over years of PvP, so consider spare controllers for ranked sessions.
PS4 vs PS5 Notes
Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 runs on PS5 via backward compatibility with improved load times. Control layout is identical; DualSense adaptive triggers do not add unique mechanics. Cross-play is not supported between PlayStation and other platforms — your PlayStation account progress stays on Sony platforms. Save data transfers from PS4 to PS5 through cloud or USB. Button prompts in-game show PS4 symbols on both systems. Remote Play uses the same Type A defaults from the connected controller. If you use accessibility remapping at system level, verify L2 and R2 simultaneous inputs still register for ultimates. For photo mode and Conton City raids, every face button prompt in tutorials assumes Type A — switch types only after you clear the combat tutorial missions that grade specific inputs.
